A consultation is where I decide what the hair and scalp can actually support before I recommend a method.
I start with the history
I ask when the hair loss or thinning began, whether you have a diagnosis, whether you are under the care of a doctor or dermatologist, and whether you have worn extensions, toppers, wigs or hair systems before.
Then I look at the hair and scalp
I look at the amount and location of the loss, the strength and density of the surrounding hair, scalp condition, recent chemical services, and whether there are areas that should not carry tension or an attachment.
Lifestyle matters
Swimming, intense exercise, regular heat styling, travel, and how much maintenance you are willing to keep up with can affect the plan. I also need to know about product, adhesive, metal or silicone sensitivities when they are relevant to the system being considered.
What I am deciding
I am deciding whether the client needs mesh, meshless, partial mesh, a closure, topper, custom hair system, added hair, or a combination. I also look at texture, length, color and placement so the finished result makes sense with the hair you already have.
Sometimes the answer is not yet
If I see open sores, active infection, severe inflammation, unexplained or sudden hair loss, or extreme scalp sensitivity or pain, I would not proceed with an installation. Undiagnosed, worsening or aggressive hair loss should be evaluated medically before cosmetic integration.
